Messi spoils Iranian Upset

The first game of Day 10 of the World Cup saw the brave Iranian squad battle Argentina for 90 minutes, a battle that could’ve ended in a draw. In the dying minutes of the game, Lionel Messi spoiled the party in typical Messi fashion with a stunning strike. Ghana showed their true grit vs. the Germans after an unconvincing performance against the Americans last week. Ghana went ahead 2-1 in the 2nd half only to see Miroslav Klose come on and tap in the equalizer.

His goal was his 15th World Cup goal, equaling the Brazilian Ronaldo’s record. Bosnia-Herzegovina’s big World Cup dreams unfortunately came to an end vs. Nigeria. Even though BIH had their moments, like a controversial callback on a goal that appeared onside, they could not capitalize on their chances.

Nigeria has some more breathing room with this win, but must get a result vs. Argentina in the 3rd round. BIH was a team that many labeled as a dark horse due to their performances in qualifying and their performance against Argentina. Their exit is another form of proof that anything can happen at the World Cup.
