Atletico de Madrid faced city rivals Real Madrid in the 2014 Champions League Final in Lisbon this past Saturday. The game started off slow, but eventually reached the back-and-forth segment of every big soccer match. Diego Godin put Atletico on the board first in the 1st half, after an awful mistake made by Iker Casillas.
The game remained in Atletico’s favor until the 93rd minute, when Sergio Ramos decided to spoil the Atletico celebrations brewing in some parts of Madrid with a power header off a corner kick. The game went into overtime, and Gareth Bale repaid Real Madrid with a close range header to put Los Merengues up 2-1. Marcelo then took the advantage of the acres of space laid out in front of him and drilled a shot into the net.
Cristiano Ronaldo got a goal of his own off a penalty kick to seal the deal for Real. The night seemed to have been a nightmare for Bale, who blew 3 good chances during regular time. He didn’t give up and ending up winning the game for Real Madrid.
