The two Spanish squads showed their true grit this week in the 2nd leg of their champions league tie. Real Madrid traveled to Munich with a 1-goal advantage, and had no struggle in adding more at the Allianz arena. Even though Bayern had all the possession, Real did well to cover space and prevent Bayern’s might offense from scoring any goals.
Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo each had a brace of his own, enough to dismantle a shocked German side, 4-0. Real Madrid is in their first Champions League final in 12 years, in hopes of getting their 10th title. The road to “La Decima” is well underway. Atletico Madrid soared passed a defense-minded Chelsea, 3-1. Torres opened up the scoring in the 1st half, but chose not to celebrate his goal out of respect for his former club.
Adrian, Diego Costa, and Arda Turan sealed the deal for the Spanish side. Costa was booked for taking too long to place the ball on the spot for his penalty. Mourinho’s defensive plan once again failed to work, as Atletico coach Diego Simeone feared none of his tactics and went on with his effective plan. This year’s CL final will be the second straight one-nation final.
